Breast Cancer Awareness

2 Oct

It’s October! That means that in addition to all the Halloween and Autumn decor you’ll be seeing in the stores, you’ll be seeing a lot of pink this month (which is fine with me, I love the color pink!)

At NationalBreastCancer.org you can create an Early Detection Plan. You have options for e-mail, RSS feeds, Instant Messages, and more. They will send you reminders for your monthly at-home exams and other information on early detection of Breast Cancer. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lives. You are at more of a risk if someone in your family has had it.

My Mom passed away 3 years ago from a combination of Breast Cancer and another type of cancer. She did not find out she was sick until she was in the 4th stage and by then it is too late. This is why early detection is so important because if it is caught early there is a chance you could survive. If it is caught early, the 5 year survival rate is 98%! I can’t tell you how much I wish things had been different and my Mom was able to know she was sick before it was too late. What a difference that could have made.

Thanks for posting about this. My mom just finished radiation for breast cancer. She has also been through kidney cancer before and lost a kidney. This is a subject dear to my heart.
